Montessori method of teaching which was promoted by Mario Montessori helps the student to learn at his or her own pace. The student is given autonomy yet the classroom environment is designed in such a way that they kid feels constant stimulus to learn and do something. In fact the success of Montessori method of teaching can also be attributed to flow. Some of the people who have studied at a Montessori school include Larry Page and Sergey Brin (founders of Google).

In Montessori schools kids learn in mixed aged classrooms. Generally kids of 3 to 6 years sit in the same classroom. Kids can study at their own pace. Kids who march ahead can even teach younger ones. This helps both the kid who is teaching as well as the kid who is being taught by the classmate. Instead of reliance on lectures, kids are guided by the teachers in the Montessori method. The materials in the class are carefully chosen so as to provide a learning environment to the kid. Kids are given freedom to move in the class.

Montessori method has been very successful at the younger ages and even schools which are not fully following the Montessori method generally incorporate some of its elements to teach kids in the primary classes. Montessori method helps kids to reach the state of ‘Flow’ and learn optimally.
